Butrint – Albania

Butrinto was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Strategically located between the Ionian Sea and Lake Butrinto, the site showcases over 2,500 years of history, with evidence of occupation dating back to the Bronze Age. Founded by the Greeks in the 7th century BCE, Butrinto flourished as a colony due to its natural harbor.

During the Roman period, the city was expanded with the addition of theaters, baths, aqueducts, and a Paleochristian basilica, reflecting its status as an important commercial and religious center. Following the decline of the Roman Empire, Butrinto experienced Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman rule, each leaving unique marks on its archaeological layers.

ATS carried out laserscanner – photogrammetric surveys and 3D modeling of all the assets comprising the archaeological site, producing the necessary documentation to represent the current state of the historical assets
