Villa Adriana – Rome – Italy

Villa Adriana

Hadrian’s Villa, built in the 2nd century CE near Tivoli as the imperial retreat of Emperor Hadrian, is one of the largest and most innovative complexes of the Roman world. Covering over 120 hectares, it combined palaces, baths, gardens, and water features inspired by diverse cultures of the empire. Though much of its decoration is lost, the monumental remains still convey its grandeur. Today, Villa Adriana is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a symbol of Roman architectural ingenuity and cultural ambition.

ATS carried out geophysical surveys for scientific research purposes within the complex, using fluxgate magnetometers and a multichannel ground-penetrating radar (GPR).
